I had stupidly misread the chipset - I thought it was an Intel 943GML, but it was actually an Intel 945GM.

All partitions that are in use receive a number. but after alot of testing and crap all I did to fix it was put in my trusty ultimate boot cd and go to hard drive tools ..selected my drive and I tryed with the Vista drivers from the HP website and it doesn't work. I tried installing xp english again but it gives the same message " setup does not detect hard drives" .
