I have vs 2005 installed in my machine, SQL 2005 Express installed, and I don't have problem to open VS 2005 report solution.I resolved the problem by install SQL 200 Reporting However, in some installations, this option may be missing.It may actuallybe listed as two separate options 1) Reporting Services and 2) SQL Server Data Tools. I wanted to add source control and decided to install the Team Suite and I did something wrong. Maybe it was SQL 2005, maybe it wasn't. (My friend does not have ReSharper, and I have previously had trouble with ReSharper and Reporting Services, so that's one possibility. This is nuts. To open it, please use a version that supports this type of project. I won’t go into the details of all the other files, but the one you need for Visual Studio 2010 reporting is the file called SQLEXPADV_x64_ENU.exe. When we upgraded to Visual Studio 2010 back in 2010, this did not exist, so we moved our reporting into a separate VS2008 solution, so that's always a (non-ideal) solution. After that I was at least able to create a new blank solution and add a reporting services project to it. That is, SQL 2008 R2 would give Visual Studio 2008 to open SQL Server 2008 R2 .rptprojects, while SQL Server 2012 gives the option to open SQL Server 2008 R2 .rptprojects.
