Helpful +2 Report WindsurferVP Oct 13, 2009 02:10PM I have had this problem.

I use Windows Vista. Interface speed and drive burst has no meaning to the sustained speed you actually get. 30-60 seem to be the normal. The best way forward is to use file-recovery software. We Can't Find A Usb Flash Drive Windows 10 The HDD was working fine as I updated windows though it failed to be recognised.

CylonRed MVM 2007-Nov-12 5:17 pm Yea - it is going to take a good while - I don't like quick To format it, so Windows can use it, just right-click the unallocated space in Disk Management and select "New Simple Volume". problem's fixed. then i went back to check My Computer to see whether i will see the shortcut icon in there but did not.

I ended up reinitializng the drive on Vista and then I could use it, but when I went to XP it would only find the drive in DISK MANAGEMENT. Cables to the disk (in my case, going to an external USB 2.0 hub) were checked and found to be OK. All rights reserved. In this window you should see all of your connected physical drives, their format, if they are healthy, and the drive letter.Change the drive letter of the drive.

In fact, that is as it should be. it was so strongly connected to the motherboard SATA port that I couldn't believe how hard I had to pull to get it out. Click Change.Select a new drive letter from the drop down list, preferably the one that is not normally used for this drive.Click Yes on the confirmation screen and you are done.Caution: Follow @howtogeek More Articles You Might Like ABOUT About Us Contact Us Discussion Forum Advertising Privacy Policy GET ARTICLES BY EMAIL Enter your email address to get our daily newsletter.

It's just as if it has vanished. From there I clicked through and now it's being formatted as NTFS.That's how it should have been in the first place.. If it is OEM then you should be able to download the program.I would boot to the cd or utility and check the hard drive - see if the software that STATUS reads Healthy and under the bottom column i see Disk 0, Disk 1, Disk 2 but the 1 & 2 reads 513MB Unallocated and 913.51GB Unallocated.what do i do next

then right click on the usb link and choose update driver follow on screen option and browse for the driver software for usb media. I had just upgraded my PC as well as intstalling XP again. I'm pretty computer illiterate, by the way, but anything would help!
