use ping and check arp tables, to confirm firewall is not blocking... If i choose NAt instead of Brdige then i can and the nat can even talk to the network but it can't for some of it. Host can't ping guest. See #14588 ). I am just starting to use vmware to run linux. The only thing that can bring them on again is shutting down every bridged vm (I can leave turned on NATted ones). I unchecked the DNE LightWeight Filter I had installed and it fixed the problem.
