The request simply times out.
I would it back a few more weeks and voila my ping started responding and my file shares came back.

If you have no shared resources, you are invisible to others. Even if you are connected to the network, you may still not be able to see other computers on the same network for several reasons. Mine is a Linksys WRT110 I. I am able to ping other computers, but can't access shares, please help!
