I am trying to fully restore a 64 bit Win 7 computer with Ra realtek RTL 8111 NIC card. The whole experience is a bit disappointing frankly. When disaster strikes, all you need to do is pop in the WHS Restore CD, follow the prompts, and you're computer comes magically back to life. So I feel comfortable saying the Thinkpad was being assigned an IP address over the wired ethernet connection.

When the Thinkpad is connected to the network it should get a IP address. I wanted to write it down while it was still fresh on my mind. Now your new hard drive is ready to have WHS restore the system to it. Is there something that first must be done to the flash drive before I copy the files in the RAR to the flash drive?
All that works on WHS 2011 is the "Restore files or folders." I think I am never going to figure this out. I then used the LAN driver pack with the XFiles Edition Client Restore disk. Perhaps I haven't found it yet but do you have a how-to as to how and what you backup to WHS beyond data files like docs, pics, video.The way I read

It's such a critical step and to leave it up to a sorry worded error message that provides no tools is disheartning. I could connect the ethernet cable to my router and see it being assigned an IP address, then unplug it and see the address being released. You will need to unzip it i a folder, with all kinds of files inside the folder - look for extensions like ..ini.or .oem…copy this folder to a memory stick…. Anonymous I cannot agree with you more.
